We’re Making Shirts Now
That’s right. After all this time, of dreaming and wondering how to do it, I finally decided to pull the trigger. After talking to one of my friends, we found a great deal on a sublimation printer and heat press about two hours south of me on facebook marketplace, made plans to pick it all up, and brought it home. This was back in July.
I have since been unsuccessful in getting the sublimation printer up to 100% function (it doesn’t seem to want to print any red or blues consistently), but the real score was the heat press. It is a 16″x20″ swing style heat press. Which, suffice to say, is one of the best styles of heat presses, and being such a large size also means I can make larger shirts/sweaters/items with it. The downside to it being so big is that it is, well, so big. It takes up space. I currently have it in my kitchen because I don’t really have any other place to put it LOL.
But all this chatter leads me to my main point: apparel. Push to Start is producing apparel now. After consulting my closet, I’ve narrowed down my favorite clothing brands and companies (you won’t find any two dollar gildan shirts in this house), and come to a conclusion: spend the extra cash on comfort. So the shirts that I bring to the table are some of the most comfortable and soft shirts I’ve ever worn, that will take the abuse of being worn every other day and washed a million and a half times. Trust me, I’ve already tested them.
The first shirt is the Push to Start shirt. I’ve got to start somewhere, right? I’ve already been wearing my own test shirt for about a month, with great success. I brought my shirt to Las Vegas and wore it out in 100+ degree weather!
I decided to pick the purple/lavender shirt for myself because I like a splash of color, but the turquoise is my personal favorite. But of course I offer black and grey/navy for those of you who just need a shirt to work in. Both the darker colors are great for grease stains and oil (my closet of other clothes agree).
Anyway, I’ve gearing up for some DTF (direct to film) shirts, which are ideal for printed designs when you don’t have access to a garment printer or don’t have pre-treatment. Can you tell I’ve done almost way too much research into how to make shirts yourself? LOL
Here’s a little gallery of photos of the Push to Start shirts, for your amusement. I have to give a shoutout to my friends Mateo and Augie and my boyfriend Jesse for modeling (ig@mateopopich and ig@pnwmiat and ig@nostalgiahero) and Michael Tilzer for taking some of the photos (ig@michaeltilzer). And of course myself as well in my purple shirt.
I can’t wait to bring some of these to Miata Reunion in November. I don’t expect to sell many, if any, but I’m still excited to show them off. And I’ll always accept orders to ship out for when I get home from the event too. 🙂
But of course, here’s the listing for the shirt, for anybody who had read this far and decided they wanted to get one for themselves based on the photos shown:
